Family services

All families are different

Sometimes, life gets tough or complicated for families.

We help by:

  • Providing  psychological services and counselling to families with children under the age of 18 from qualified and experienced staff;
  • Assisting you to access a range of free government-funded services that will help your family become more resilient;
  • Providing support and counselling to young people (under 25 years old) for all issues, including use of alcohol and other drugs.

All of our staff are degree-qualified and registered with appropriate professional bodies.

Better Together is committed to your privacy and confidentiality and have strict processes and guidelines to safeguard your information and identity.

This includes video-conference sessions.

Counselling for families

Families with children under the age of 18 and who meet our eligibility criteria will be able to access our Family Support Program.  Children do not need to be living with the parent for your family to enter this service.

A therapist will work to help improve you and your family’s emotional wellbeing.

You and your family will be able to access:

  • Individual counselling (including children and young people), in-person or electronically (phone counselling, video link);
  • Information, advice, education and referrals to other services.

You are welcome to speak directly to Better Together if you would like access to this option or ask another professional you trust to refer you to Better Together.

Family support

If you would like to create a better family life, but need advice, help and support to do so, Better Together’s non-judgemental and professional family case managers are able to do so.

The Intensive Family Support Program is an entirely voluntary program that works around the goals of your family, whatever that may be.

Better Together staff will sit down with you and your family and find out more about how you would like your family life to be. They will then work out a plan with your agreement and support you throughout this time.

Some common issues that we have seen at Better Together include budgeting, relationships between parent and child as well as domestic violence and substance misuse.

Your case manager can see you in your home; however, if you do not feel safe, they can meet you at a place where you feel more comfortable.

While we prioritise your goals and will work with you to achieve them, the safety of your children are at the heart of everything we do and you and your Better Together staff member will work together to ensure their safety.

Counselling for young people

Young people under the age of 25 are welcome at Better Together.

We have psychologists and counsellors who work with all ages.

They will work with the young person and any issues they may bring up, including use of alcohol and other drugs.

We also have staff members who go to Etheridge and Croydon Shires to specifically help young people.
