Let’s make the Tablelands better… together

The Better Together volunteer program links community members to valued volunteer roles within Better Together. 

Volunteer roles include being involved and learning skills in taxation assistance, gardening, Emergency Relief, Personal Support, baking and food preparation.

Community members are encouraged to discuss their interests, skills and availability with the Community Support and Development Team to identify an appropriate role.

 

We are also active in the education sphere. We accept student placements and have a track record in working collaboratively so that students can achieve their academic goals while practising their theoretical understanding in the real world of community development.

 

Better Together is also interested in developing partnerships with existing volunteer groups to meet community goals.

  • Oz Harvest Run – driving to Cairns and picking up food donations. Does include lifting boxes/eskys of food
  • Pantry Support Worker – helping set up on a Wednesday before the community pantry. Cutting up vegetables, decanting food into smaller bags, helping with the running of the pantry
  • Emergency Relief – provide information, support and referral services to clients in a confidential and non-judgmental manner
  • No Interest Loans – providing help applying for no-interest loans
  • Tax help – providing tax-related personal support
  • Community Garden Participant – helping in the community garden
  • Tuesdays Together Host – cooking treats and setting up morning tea 

 

Having a Blue Card, or the ability to obtain a Blue Card (working with children) is essential.
